How I discovered the Polaris Diagram and other important elements in Leonardo’s paintings
My name is Boško Kontić. I was born in 1956 in Knin, Croatia. I graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University in Zagreb in 1980. In the course of the last three decades I have been engaged in painting. Curves are the primary visual shapes on my paintings while their format is usually a square. Analysing some of my paintings I came to the conclusion that I intuitively applied the rules of the golden ratio. Surprised by the power of such a universal rule, I decided to try to analyse, by applying the ratio, the paintings of Leonardo da Vinci, primarily his Mona Lisa. I was aware of the fact that numerous very unusual analyses and interpretations of the Mona Lisa by non-scholars existed, but on the other hand, there were no generally accepted and definite analyses by scholars either. Precisely because of that I concluded that my approach had to be different. To that end I studied some of Leonardo’s allegorical drawings as well as a few of his allegorical sentences which I interpreted in my own way. Along those lines and naturally taking into account the golden ratio, I constructed a geometric diagram which I used to analyse the Mona Lisa. The elements of the diagram or geometric elements derived from the diagram concurred with the important visual shapes on the painting. Some of the geometric elements of the diagram appeared as superfluous and were therefore left out but the rest is visible in what I have named the Polaris Diagram. With such a Diagram and with rules for its use, which I also discovered, I analysed all of Leonardo’s paintings which retained their original dimension and original supports they were painted on, including a number of drawings.
In almost all of them I found evidence of the use of the Diagram. Moreover, the analysis based on the Polaris Diagram revealed the importance of certain visual shapes in the paintings as well as Leonardo’s method of work.
Owing to the Polaris Diagram I also came to the revelation of an important part of Mona Lisa’s secret. The purpose of this website is to disclose the more important elements of that discovery. Although I am deeply convinced in its accuracy as well as in my other discoveries, I consider public opinion to be quite important. The discovery of the Polaris Diagram exceeds the last indicated discovery, but it is nevertheless mentioned here for the purpose of revealing Mona Lisa’s secret.
This website is rather modest in the volume of content it offers. But, when you are searching for a hidden treasure, it is sufficient to know where the x mark is on the map.
